Oxford, Maryland
Visiting Oxford
Oxford, Maryland was officially founded in 1694, making it one of Maryland’s oldest towns.
Oxford is located near the mouth of the Tred Avon River and served as an important port of entry for British trade vessels in Colonial times. Oxford flourished in this capacity until the Revolutionary War brought an end to British trade. The town declined for many years until oystering businesses began to flourish in the late 1800’s.
Today, Oxford is a quiet town that is enjoyed by visitors who appreciate it’s history and charm. In 2011, Yachting Magazine named Oxford the world’s best waterfront town.
